The AMOS Conference attracts over 800 participants from over 20 countries

Registration is now open for the Advanced Maui Optical and Space Surveillance Technologies (AMOS) Conference to be held September 17-20, 2019 at the Wailea Beach Resort.  Celebrating its 20th Anniversary this year, the premier technical conference in the nation devoted to space situational awareness will include some special events and moments to ensure a memorable experience for all.

The cross section of private sector, government, and academic participation helps foster important dialogue and international collaboration. The continued growth in attendance and participating countries at AMOS reflects a growing interest in space sustainability and space commerce initiatives as new actors—national governments, private sector companies, non-governmental entities, and universities—become involved in these activities.

Over 840 attendees from 23 countries participated in the 2018 program. Keynote speakers, panel discussions, technical short courses, exhibits and poster presentations addressed the growing number of space operators, the move to commercial activities, and the importance of balancing commercial innovation with national security and international relations.

This year the AMOS Conference received nearly 200 abstract submissions.  Papers will be reviewed and selected to be presented in technical sessions that cover Adaptive Optics & Imaging; Astrodynamics; Machine Learning; Non-Resolved Object Characterization; Optical Systems & Instrumentation; Orbital Debris; Space Situational Awareness and Space-Based Assets.

AMOS provides the opportunity to stay on the cutting edge of industry trends while networking and cross-sharing knowledge within the SSA community.  In addition to the plenary sessions, the Exhibit and Poster Sessions provide further opportunities to build relationships and learn about new technologies and developments in the Space arena.

EMER-GEN Program

The 2nd Annual EMER-GEN program will precede the AMOS Conference on September 15-17.  Designed especially for young professionals and students (18-35yrs) enthusiastic about careers in space, EMER-GEN is a joint initiative of the AMOS Conference and the Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC).

With the help of advisors from industry, government, academia and NGOs, the program involves a two-day experience that offers:

  • Mentoring with renowned space specialists from the public sector (military and civil), private sector, and nongovernmental organizations
  • Networking with other young professionals
  • A technical short course presented by a specialist in space situational awareness
  • Professional Development sessions to enhance effectiveness in a global environment

“The EMER-GEN program for young professionals builds on the capabilities and network of the AMOS Conference, ” said Conference Director, Sandy Ryan of the Maui Economic Development Board. “Through the partnership with the SGAC, we look forward to assisting with the aspirations of the upcoming space generation.”

The AMOS Conference and EMER-GEN is a program of the Maui Economic Development Board, Inc. (MEDB), a nonprofit corporation established in 1982 to focus on diversifying Maui’s economy. MEDB’s mission involves taking innovative actions that strengthen existing industry as well as diversifying through new opportunities.
